Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are
PrepScanner is operated by PrepSocial. The PrepScanner app and website are available at prepscanner.app and through the PrepScanner mobile app (Bundle ID: com.prepscanner.app). The backend service runs on prepsocial.com.

2. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Username and email address when you register
- Encrypted password (we never store plaintext passwords)
- Account creation date and last login time
Photos and Scan Data
- Photos you submit for AI identification (animals, plants, objects)
- AI-generated identification results associated with each scan
- Scan history including timestamps and item categories
Photos are submitted securely over HTTPS and stored in encrypted cloud storage. We do not share your photos with third parties except as required to provide the AI identification service.
Subscription and Payment Information
- Subscription tier (free or Pro) and subscription status
- Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your credit card number
- Stripe may collect billing name, card details, and billing address per their own Privacy Policy
Usage Data
- Number of scans performed and remaining scan quota
- App version and platform (iOS / Android / web)
- Standard server request logs (IP address, request path, HTTP status code) retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging
3. Device Permissions
The PrepScanner app requests the following permissions:
- Camera — to take photos of animals, plants, and objects for identification. Only accessed when you actively use the scan feature.
- Photo Library — to select existing photos from your gallery for identification. Only accessed when you choose to upload from your gallery.
We do not access your camera or photo library in the background. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device Settings.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the AI identification service
- To maintain your scan history and allow you to review past results
- To manage your account and subscription status
- To process payments via Stripe
- To send important account-related emails (password resets, subscription confirmations)
- To detect and prevent fraud and abuse
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
5. Third-Party Services
- Stripe — payment processing (stripe.com/privacy)
- Google Cloud / AI APIs — powers the image identification model. Images are transmitted to the AI service for analysis and are not retained by the AI provider beyond the immediate inference request.
- Cloud storage provider — encrypted storage for scan images
Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We select providers that maintain strong data protection practices.
6. Data Retention
- Your account data is retained as long as your account is active
- Scan history and images are retained indefinitely to support your history view, unless you delete them
- You may delete individual scans at any time from within the app
- You may request full account deletion at any time (see Section 8)
- Server request logs are retained for up to 30 days
7. Data Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing. Scan images are stored in encrypted cloud storage with access controlled by authenticated signed URLs. We follow security best practices and review our infrastructure regularly.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at galt@prepsocial.com.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — update inaccurate account information
- Deletion — delete your account and all associated data from within the app (Account → Delete Account), or by emailing us
- Data portability — request an export of your scan history
- Opt-out — you may stop using the app and delete your account at any time, free of charge
To exercise any of these rights, contact galt@prepsocial.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
PrepScanner is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete the account promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice.
